How To Enjoy Your Summer & Stay On Track

Summer is finally here!! Are your calendars filling up with social gatherings and get aways? It can be easy to start questioning whether you can achieve your goals AND enjoy the summer.

Let me be the first to tell you, you can absolutely do both.

I wanted to share 5 quick tips and inspiration to help you navigate summer gatherings with ease.

1. Shift your mindset. One of the first things to consider is shifting your perspective on what it means to enjoy gatherings. Often, we associate enjoyment with indulging in food without any thought. However, it's important to define enjoyment for yourself, it can be so much more than just what you eat and drink. By choosing to be present in the moment and savoring the experience, you can find joy in the company, the conversations, and the surroundings in itself. Enjoying the summer goes way beyond just food and drinks.

2. Remember you have control. When attending gatherings, remember that you are in control of what you eat, even if you don't control the menu. Don't hesitate to say no to dishes that you don't want or save half of the dish for tomorrow's lunch.

It may also be a fabulous idea to bring a dish! How about a veggie platter or a big salad. This way you have more options to stay on track with your goal and I'm sure bringing a dish would be helpful to the host as well! It's a win-win!

3. Keep your hands busy. Another trick… I've found it helpful to have something in my hand, like my water that I love with phytonutrients. It keeps my hands busy and helps me avoid mindless snacking.

4. Eat before you go. I am not saying you have to eat an entire meal before you go somewhere, but make sure you aren't going to an event really hungry. This is going to help you make good choices...kind of like making sure you don't go to the grocery store hungry, that is when lots of extra things end up in my cart LOL. I like to have a shake or a snack before I go to a gathering.

5. To treat or not to treat? Decide in advance. Think it is really important to decide ahead of time what your plan is. Do you want treats? Do you want a glass of wine? Decide ahead of time and stick to your plan. It is possible to enjoy treats in moderation and still achieve your goals. Mindset around treats is important. When you learn to plan ahead for them, enjoy them without feeling guilty, it is much easier to move right along afterwards rather than feeling bad. That is when the self sabotage happens.

It's entirely possible to enjoy the summer, attend graduation parties, enjoy your vacations and lead a fulfilling life while still eating healthily. Each choice we make is an opportunity to nourish ourselves and honor our goals.

Relax and Enjoy!

Blessings,
